Nutshell’s mission is to promote the use of reusable bags over plastic bags. Each year, around eight million tonnes of plastics leak into our oceans – the same as emptying the contents of one bin truck into the ocean every 60 seconds.
Estimates suggest that there are already more than 150 million tonnes of plastic in the oceans. If we carry on in the same way, there will be one tonne of plastic for every three tonnes of fish by 2025; and more plastic (by weight) than fish by 2050. That’s not just a disaster for marine life. Plastics production is responsible for around 6% of global oil production and also gives rise to CO2 emissions that contribute to global warming.
Nutshell’s aim is to change that vision, one reusable shopping bag at a time.
